A second half rally propelled the Graceville Tigers to a 51-40 win over Sneads the 1A District 2 Basketball Tournament in Vernon Tuesday night.

The win set up Friday night’s game against No. 1 in the district Holmes County at 6 p.m. Friday.

Most of the first quarter was dominated by defense with the score staying stuck at 2-2 for a good chunk of its eight minutes.

The Pirates were able to eventually break the deadlock, but adding points proved difficult in the face of a very determined Graceville opposition.

Sneads was up 9-4 as the game entered the second.

While neither team’s intensity slackened, the Pirates were able to steadily build up a 24-16 lead by halftime.

Things began to change in the third as the Tigers bared their fangs and unleashed a furious offensive assault that rapidly ate away at Sneads’ lead.

With less than two minutes in the quarter, Graceville took the lead and didn’t look back until the buzzer sounded to end the third.

The Tigers were up 36-29.

Sneads tried to recover in the fourth but it was a steep hill to climb, thanks to a still energized Graceville offense. In the end the Tigers won 51-40.

The Gracevilles’s high scorers were Toddarius Olds with 17 and Cyprian James with 14. Trenton Smith, Christopher McCollough, and Nicholas Milsapp all had nine apiece for Sneads.
