The Graceville Tiger beat Blountstown 55-30 to claim the 1A District 2 Basketball Championship Saturday night in Vernon.

In the first quarter Graceville took a nine-point lead before Blountstown was able to get its foot in the door. Blountstown rapidly put up five, but Graceville was undaunted and kept pushing until they were up 17-5.

Both teams’ defenses dug in during the top half of the second, but as the quarter waned, both teams’ walls were beginning to show cracks and the points began to pile up again.

Graceville was up 26-19 at the half and was able to hold onto that momentum in the third even as Blountstown began to flounder in the game’s increasingly rough seas.

The fourth started with Graceville up 38-24 and a dam breaking.

The slow and steady accumulation of points by Graceville turned into a flood as Blountstown faltered and was washed away.

The win sets up a regional semifinal home matchup for Graceville against local rivals Poplar Springs Thursday at 7 p.m.

Blountstown will be traveling to Paxton.

Graceville’s high scorer was Xavian Sorey with 18. Andre Brown and Joell Green both had 10.
