MAY 14

The Dothan Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will host their monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Mill Restaurant located in Dothan at the junction of Highway 231 North and Murphy Mill Road. Leann Richardson, deputy chief clerk with the Houston County Probate Office, will give a presentation on the probate process and wills for final estate planning purposes. The Gold Wing Road Riders Chapter U of Dothan will have their regular gathering at 6 p.m. at the Golden Corral on the Ross Clark Circle in Dothan. Door prizes, 50/50 and more. The Chapter has no fees.

Empty Bowls Dothan will hold community bowl-making days at 6 p.m. May 14, June 11 and July 16 at the Dothan Cultural Arts Center, 909 S. St. Andrews St. Space is limited; registration is required. To register, call the center at 334-699-2787.

MAY 15

A budgeting class will be held by The Salvation Army at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army location at 1001 Bell St. in Dothan. The class is free and designed to help people see where their money goes. Call 334-792-1911 by May 14 to register.

Ride of Silence will begin at 7 p.m. with cyclists riding in silent procession to honor those who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Participants ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no registration fees to participate. The ride, held during National Bike Month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. An international event, the Dothan Area Cyclists group organized the local ride. Sign-up begins at 6 p.m. at the Dothan Civic Center.

MAY 17

Forestry Field Day will be held 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Geneva State Forest Lake, Forest Lake Road, in Kinston. Lunch provided; registration required by calling 334-684-2484. The entrance to Geneva State Forest is located on Highway 54, which is off Highway 52 west of Samson if coming from Dothan. Topics will include gopher tortoise management, streamside management zones, wild pig effects on water quality, invasive plant management, stream crossings and forest roads, portable sawmilling and drone applications in forestry. Continuing education credits available.

MAY 18

The 33rd Annual School Reunion in Blue Springs will be held at Blue Springs State Park with registration at 9 a.m. and a program at 11 a.m. Lunch will be at noon and everyone is asked to bring a covered dish. The reunion marks the 50th anniversary since the school’s closing. Students, teachers and friend are invited.

The first BHB Bash and Family Fun Day will be held at The Plant, 308 N. St. Andrews St., in downtown Dothan from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Proceeds from the event, held during Mental Health Awareness Month, will support the Blayne Hardy Barfield Foundation’s mission to prevent suicides and promote mental health awareness. Special guests will include Sean Dietrich, a writer and humorist known as Sean of the South, and the Pontiac Stove Company. Activities will include inflatables, Robert the Balloon Guy, face painting, corn hole and a silent auction that includes a beach trip on 30A valued at $3,000 from Sanders Beach Rentals. T-shirts and koozies will be for sale and Dothan Ice Cream will be on site. Ticket options include a $25 ticket that includes activities and one lunch plate provided by Hunt’s restaurant or a $10 general admission ticket for activities but no food included. The Wiregrass Daylily Society presents its annual daylily show at the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens in Rickett's Hall. There will be daylilies for sale. Free to attend and open to the public from 1 to 3 p. m. For more information, contact Rita Moore at 334-618-2103.

The Dothan Alumni Chapter of Alabama State University will host its annual Bonnie Charles Dickens scholarship luncheon at 1 p.m. in the Sterling Events Lion's Hall at Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center, 795 Ross Clark Circle, in Dothan.
