WASHINGTON — After a Miami youth basketball charity said it would not accept money from a charity golf event this weekend promoted by a Hialeah strip club at President Donald Trump’s Doral resort, Trump’s company canceled the event Wednesday evening.

The Trump Organization said it shelved Shadow Cabaret’s tournament after the Miami Allstars Foundation, the charity, dropped out, The Washington Post reported Wednesday evening.

“The event was originally booked with the understanding that it would be raising money to support a local charity benefiting underprivileged children,” a Trump Organization spokeswoman said in a statement to the Post. “Now that the charity has removed its affiliation, the event will no longer be taking place at our property and all amounts paid will be refunded.”

Carlos Alamilla, the director of the Miami All Stars, said his organization was unaware the charity event was run by Shadow Cabaret, a Hialeah strip club, until a Washington Post reporter called him about it. Alamilla said an event promoter had reached out to him to ask if his organization would like to benefit from a charity golf tournament at Trump Doral, and he’d accepted despite his opposition to the president.

He said he was unaware strippers would be involved.

“It’s shocking to me that I’ve been dealing with some people at the strip tease club,” Alamilla said in an interview with the Miami Herald. “To me, it was focused on the golf and the tournament. I was never told that the strip club would be involved in this.”

The Washington Post reported that golfers attending the event would be able to choose their own female caddie and after a round of golf and a meal at BLT Prime, attendees would return to the strip club for a “very tasteful” burlesque show that could involve nudity.

Emanuele Mancuso, Shadow Cabaret’s marketing director, said he could not comment on the charity’s decision to pull out of the event because he wanted to speak with a lawyer.

“This is not a political event, they (The Washington Post) put the news out,” Mancuso said. “I don’t understand why the Washington Post is making a big deal out of this. This is not the first time that a gentleman’s club has put on these kind of events and it won’t be the last time.”

Alamilla also said Shadow Cabaret used the National Basketball Association’s logo on the event invitations without his permission or the NBA’s permission. After the Post reported on the event on Monday, Alamilla said he received a call from the NBA’s lawyers.

“I got a call from the NBA. Their lawyers called me up and said, ‘Why are you using this in a strip tease?’ ” Alamilla said.

That response, combined with public reaction to a strip club holding an event at a property owned by the president, caused Alamilla to back out.

“He (Trump) represents everything that we don’t,” Alamilla said. “Because he abuses migrant kids, and sex and kids don’t jibe.”

Alamilla said his organization has had a positive relationship with the NBA’s youth basketball programs for years and excels at getting young people college scholarships, including one recent graduate who won a Bill Gates Fellowship.

Getting involved with a strip club and Trump Doral hurts his organization’s mission to help young people through basketball, he said.

“Last night I told them to please take out everything that has to do with Miami All Stars. I want nothing to do with the event,” Alamilla said. “I’m not going to accept the money. I don’t know anybody with Trump Doral. I don’t have anything to do with them, zero. I’ve never been there.”

Alamilla’s comments come as Trump’s resort properties in Florida, including Trump Doral and Mar-a-Lago, have struggled to retain large charity events that bring in millions in revenue.
