A Dothan man was arrested Thursday night at the Dothan High School football game after being found with two guns in his backpack.
Howard Jujuan Reynolds Jr., 19, of Dothan, was arrested and charged with carrying an illegal weapon and possession of a firearm in certain places, both misdemeanors.
According to Dothan Police Lt. Lynn Watkins, Reynolds was approached outside the stadium by law enforcement and did not enter the stadium during Dothan's game Thursday night against Early County, Ga.
“Mr. Reynolds was trying to enter the stadium and it was determined he had a firearm inside a back pack,” Watkins said.
Dothan Police Sgt. Clark Rice said Reynolds openly displayed gang colors, which gave law enforcement the lawful right to approach him.
“The subject caught my attention by his open display of gang colors,” Rice said. “During any school function, including football games, bandanas are not allowed due to their gang representation. His hair and shoes were also of red color, which I felt clearly displayed his gang affiliation.”
Rice said he noticed Reynolds carrying a leather backpack as he approached. Rice informed Reynolds he needed to speak with him regarding the display of gang attire.
“I knew I needed to get the subject in the area where Officer Scott Spivey was located for safety reasons, and to perform a search,” Rice said. “I knew we had probable cause for the search, and during the search, two handguns were located.”
Reynolds posted a $1,000 bond after being booked.
