An Elba woman faces first-degree theft of property charges after she allegedly stole a Coffee County Sheriff's Office deputy's patrol car Friday morning.
According to CCSO Chief Deputy Ronnie Whitworth, a deputy noticed a woman – later identified as 31-year-old Corie Alexander Lamb – walking along the roadside of County Road 422 Friday morning. When the deputy asked if he could assist her, Lamb said she was walking to her grandmother's house.
After the grandmother refused to let Lamb stay at her home, she asked the deputy to transport her to a residence on County Road 406. When the deputy checked to see if anyone was at that location, Lamb allegedly crawled from the back seat to the front through a vent hole and drove away with the vehicle.
Deputies later arrested Lamb at a gas station on the U.S. Highway 84 bypass in Elba and booked her into the Coffee County Jail. The car suffered no damage in the incident, Whitworth said.
