A 21-year-old Florida inmate who admitted to the 2015 beating death of his cellmate Apalachee Correctional Institution (ACI) is now charged in the beating death of his cellmate in Jackson County, Florida, jail Monday.

Frederick Walter Patterson III faces an open count of murder in the death of Arthur F. Williams, a Canadian citizen who was 82 years old when he was arrested on local charges late last year. Jackson County jail administrator Mark Foreman said Monday he is working through a Canadian consulate to achieve notification of next kin.

Foreman said no known weapons were used in the death of Williams. He said the inmate’s injuries included head trauma.

The Marianna Police Department was called to the jail at roughly 2 a.m. Monday on reports of inmate Williams’ death. Staff members reported that, during a security check, they discovered that Patterson had attacked his cellmate. Investigators determined it was an ambush-style attack on the cellmate, the MPD reports.

As of early Monday afternoon, Patterson was being held in an isolation cell at the jail, Foreman said.

A chaplain is being made available for jail staff and inmates at the facility, he said, and follow-up clinical are will be provided to inmates as well.

Williams, from the town of Tillsonburg in Oxford County, Ontario, Canada, was jailed on charges of stalking, enticing a child, trespassing and more been filed by local.

Officials at the time of his arrest said they were investigating a suspicion that the Williams could have targeted a local youngster in an online chat room or game. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office alleged that he had been watching and following a 9-year-old boy near his school bus stop and home on the Kynesville Highway over a period of days.

Williams was taken into custody and charged by the JCSO with stalking, enticing/luring a child under 12, trespassing, aggravated stalking and providing false information to law enforcement.

Patterson had been brought back to Jackson County from Union Correctional Institution in November 2017 to face a 2 nd degree murder charge in the 2015 death of ACI prisoner Scott Collinsworth.

Patterson is accused of killing Collinsworth while the two were alone in an ACI cell together on Oct. 2, 2015. A correctional officer checking the cell that morning found Collinsworth lying on the floor in a pool of blood. A doctor was summoned and pronounced him dead.

According to the complaint filed against Patterson by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in the 2015 death, Patterson admitted that he beat Collinsworth to death, saying he did so after Collinsworth exposed himself.

Patterson reportedly said he’d struck Collinsworth repeatedly with his fists, feet, elbows and knees, continuing to do so after the fellow inmate had lost consciousness.

Collinsworth had been serving a 15-year term for robbery, and was roughly two years into the sentence when he died.

Patterson was transferred to Union Correctional Institution after the killing at ACI.
