Dale County Judge Kimberly Clark sentenced Devina Peters, 43, of Newton, Tuesday to serve seven years in prison for theft from her employer.

Peters was arrested June 12, 2018, and charged with first-degree theft of property.

“Between January, 2015 and April 18, 2018, Ms. Peters stole roughly $130,000 from her employer Southern Wall Systems,” said Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams. “She also failed to pay the company’s employee holdings to the Internal Revenue Service, causing Southern Wall Systems to now pay employees’ holdings, penalties, and interest, which is roughly another $200,000.”

Peters was employed as the company’s bookkeeper, Adams said.

Peters applied for alternative sentencing, but Clark denied Peter’s application and sentenced her to 84 months in the Alabama Department of Corrections.
