The Alabama Air National Guard unit based at the Dothan Regional Airport recently conducted a change of command.

Lt. Col. Gary J. Osland assumed command of the 280th Special Operations Communications Squadron from Lt. Col. Thomas C. Raia during an event at Wallace Community College on June 1, according to a press release from the unit.

Osland received his commission through the Academy of Military Science in 2006. He has served in several roles as a cyber operations officer to include section commander, flight commander, and most recently, as the Cybersecurity Defense Team commander for the 226th Combat Communications Group of the Alabama Air National Guard in Montgomery.

He was responsible for forming and leading the stand-up of the first ever Alabama Air National Guard cyber team.  The team provides critical information and guidance to the State of Alabama and Air National Guard Combat Communications Squadrons.

Raia’s next assignment will be as the expeditionary communications director at the National Guard Bureau in Washington, DC.
