An accomplished ophthalmologist will soon be joining Eye Center South.
Dr. Paul R. Mitchell, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been selected by his peers to be included in Castle Connolly’s “The Best Doctors in America” listing. He has devoted over 30 years of service to the American School for the Deaf and the Oak Hill School for the Blind.
Mitchell has acted as an editor and contributor to multiple ophthalmology publications; as a medical illustrator, he has published hundreds of drawings of eye conditions and surgical procedures.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts and graduated with his doctorate from George Washington University Medical School in Washington, D.C., in 1970. He completed his surgical internship at the Dartmouth Medical School/Mary Hitchcock Hospital, and completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology in 1977 at the Children’s National Medical Center. Mitchell also has served as a senior attending surgeon and assistant clinical professor in ophthalmology surgery and pediatrics.
“We’re all thrilled to welcome Dr. Mitchell to the Eye Center South team,” said Dr. Marnix Heersink, M.D., a cataract and refractive surgeon at Eye Center South. “He’s bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and an expertise that comes with years of experience in ophthalmology. His addition to our team isn’t just wonderful for our staff, it’s great for our patients.”
Mitchell specializes in pediatric care, treating eye muscle diseases, and eye surgery. He will be available to see patients at Eye Center South beginning July 6.
Eye Center South was founded in 1980 in Dothan. Over the years, it has grown to serve Florida, Georgia and more of Alabama, offering cataract surgery, refractive surgery, oculofacial plastics and other services critical to maintaining eye health.
