On Dec. 6, Hawk Houston Youth Enrichment Center (formerly Boys & Girls Clubs of Hawk Houston) had its 2nd Annual Alveta Houston Hawk Wine & Food Fest and silent auction. We are happy to report to our donors, sponsors, and volunteers that it was very successful because of their support. For a complete list please visit our website www.hawkhoustonyec.org.

2018 was a particularly challenging year for this historic youth organization, from having our BG Club charter revoked to the years of ongoing financial struggles. Our programs and services to youth who need us the most and families remain strong as does our commitment to them. Unfortunately, for several years now community support has not been as strong as previous years. However, we continue to believe that our efforts are not in vain. As president of the board of directors, I appeal to our businesses, companies, foundations, churches, civic clubs and individuals to help us help ourselves. In the Bible, James 4:2 reads, “You have not because you ask not.” We end the year thanking you for your past support and begin 2019 asking for monetary, in-kind, and volunteer support.

This year, 2019, marks our 55th anniversary. Our late founder, Alveta Houston Hawk, said, “... great things would come from it." We have several events to celebrate this major milestone.

We have much to be thankful for and we are. Despite our ongoing challenges and struggles we are making progress and we invite you to visit our facility at 329 Chickasaw St. and meet our children and staff.

Again, on behalf of myself and our board of directors, thank you for your support. We pray that you have a blessed and peaceful 2019.

Denise C. Newby, President

Hawk-Houston Youth Enrichment Center, Board of directors
