Roydell Williams scored five touchdowns and rushed for more than 300 yards as Hueytown ran past a depleted Eufaula squad, 38-17, in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Eufaula, which closed out the season at 5-6 under first-year head coach Ed Rigby, played without its own standout running back, Joe Green, who suffered a head injury in the first half last week against Smiths Station.

Hueytown is now 9-2 .

Williams, only a junior, ran rampant over Eufaula. He scored three TDs while toting the ball on 21 of Hueytown’s first 23 plays from scrimmage. In fact, he carried 12 consecutive plays for the Golden Gophers on the game’s opening series, capping it off with a touchdown run to give the home team a 7-0 lead.

On his 14 th consecutive carry, Williams sprinted 83 yards to the end zone with 3:06 left in the first period for a 14-0 lead.

Eufaula sophomore quarterback Hess Horne passed 14 yards to Trez Blackshire for a touchdown and Eufaula pulled within 14-6 with 8:49 left in the first half.

Williams made it 21 carries in 23 Hueytown plays, scoring another TD with 5:49 left in the first half for a 21-6 lead.

Davis Wingate’s 36-yard field goal for Eufaula with 2:17 left in the half made it 21-9.

Hueytown kicked a field goal on the last play of the first half to lead at intermission, 24-9.

After Eufaula went three-and-out and was forced to punt to Hueytown to open the second half, Williams sprinted 71 yards on the first play for his fourth touchdown as the Golden Gophers led, 31-9.

Horne passed 5 yards to Montavious Duckworth for a touchdown with 6:50 still left in the third quarter. Horne then connected on a two-point conversion with Zay Thomas and the Tigers trailed just 31-17.

However, Williams scored for the fifth time with 8:08 remaining as the Golden Gophers sealed Eufaula’s fate.
