ENTEPRISE -- In the first home match of the newly-created Enterprise High School wrestling program, the Wildcats took down Russell County 45-39, with seven wrestlers earning individual victories — six of them winning by pin.

Ethan Flowers, wrestling at 113, got an early pin to take the lead for Enterprise. Brenden Clark (126), Colby Clark (182), Bradley Tanner (195), Ryan Page (283), Layton Smith (106) and Deon Wise (138) all followed with pins later in the match.

Wesley Richmond (152) won 7-4 by decision over the Russell County wrestler.

Tanner Rogers, Xavier Torres, William Gottsacker and Cole Killingworth all lost by pin, and Enterprise forfeited one bout.

Head Coach Matt Pipkins, formerly a coach on the Russell County wrestling team, said the win was positive for the program, especially in front of a riled up home crowd.

“ They (the fans) are loving this, and they definitely got excited,” he said. “This was a good opportunity for the program, and the fans learned you don’t have to know everything about wrestling to be excited about it.”
